AUSTIN — Henderson senior Cason Weatherton ended his high school track and field career in style, repeating as state champion in the wheelchair shot put event and placing fifth in the wheelchair 100-meter race on Friday at the University Interscholastic League’s State Track and Field Meet at Mike A. Myers Track and Soccer Stadium.
Weatherton, a three-time state qualifier, had a best throw of 25-9 to repeat as champion in that event, edging out Jacksboro’s Jaxon Hubble by one-half inch. Mount Pleasant’s Jonathan Ramirez finished sixth in the event at 19-2.75.
Later in the day, Weatherton clocked in at 22.86 for his fifth-place finish in the 100 meters. Sammy Meador of Henderson was ninth at 24.08. Owen Horsley of Prosper Rock Hill won the gold at 17.18.
Beckville’s J’Koby Williams, a Texas Tech football signee, captured his third straight Class 2A 110-meter hurdles state title with a 14.19 finish. Garrison’s J.T. Reagan finished third at 14.9 behind Stockdale’s Camden Derricoatte (14.71).
Williams also ran the first leg of Beckville’s 800 relay that finished third with a time of 1:29.74. He was joined by Aiden Harris, Major Harris and Will Bogs. Refugio won the gold medal at 1:28.22.
Hallsville’s LaMaiya Henderson brought home the silver medal in the 5A 400 meters with a time of 54.18. Midlothian Heritage’s Angel Brefo won the event at 53.41.
Dylan Bennett of Mount Pleasant placed second in the 5A 100 meters with a time of 10.52. William Mitchell of Fort Bend Marshall won the gold with a time of 10.43.
Linden-Kildare’s Jamiah Birmingham brought home silver in the girls 2A long jump with a best of 37-4.25. Logan Prater of Eldorado won the event at 38-7.25. Birmingham also placed eighth in the girls 2A long jump with a best of 16-0.75. Prater also won that event, finishing with a top jump of 18-2.75.
Hallsville’s Stanley Tunstall finished third to bring home bronze in the boys 5A discus with a best toss of 184-5. Banks Goodmanson of Galveston Ball won the event at 185-9.
Hallsville’s LaMaiya Henderson finished on the medal stand in third place at 23.97 in the 5A 200 meters. Saniyah Miller of Lancaster won the event with a time of 23.52.
Kaegan Ash of Mount Enterprise finished with bronze in the boys 2A triple jump after a best leap of 45-0.50. Diontay Ramon won the event at 47-1.50.
Carlisle’s Alesha Jackson brought home bronze in the girls 2A high jump with a top leap of 5-4. Frankston’s Jermya Mitchell was eighth at 5-0. State champion Alexis Gonzales of Harts Bluff had a top jump of 5-6.
Marshall’s De’Trevyon Goudeau placed fourth in the 5A 400 meters with a time of 48.06. Fort Worth Wyatt’s Malik Franklin was the state champion with a clocking of 47.23.
Amira Meeks of Hawkins finished sixth in the girls 2A 800 meters with a 2:22.95 clocking. Shelbyville’s Emily Pharris won the event at 2:17.67.
Pine Tree’s Ewoma Ugbini was fifth and Longview’s T’Asia McGee eighth in the girls 5A triple jump. Ugbini had a best of 38-1, and McGee had a top jump of 36-3. Lily Muzzy of Georgetown won the gold at 41-6.25.
Harleton’s Neal Fajardo was seventh in the boys 2A discus with a best toss of 141-4. State champion Luke Peacock of Haskell had a top throw of 172-9.
Longview’s Jada Owens placed eighth in the girls 5A shot put with a best toss of 40-9.75. Aledo’s Lauren St. Peters won the gold with a best of 48-9.75.
Pine Tree’s Brock Reddic finished eighth in the boys 5A shot put with a top throw of 49-3.50. Friendswood’s Brandon Schrick won the event with a best of 64-1.50.
Mount Pleasant’s Dylan Bennett, Isaiah Hunter, Shane Watkins and Latristian Thompson finished ninth in the 5A 800 relay with a time of 1:28.26. Fort Bend Marshall won the gold medal at 1:24.92.
Hawkins’ Jentri Evans placed ninth in the 2A 300 hurdles with a 49.15 clocking. Shelbyville’s Kylie Snell placed eighth at 47.52, and Goldthwaite’s Lainey Jernigan won the event at 42.82.
