Day picked up his 500th career win on Jan. 14, 2022, with a 59-52 Grand Oaks win over Conroe.

Day was hired as Grand Oaks’ first basketball coach in program history in 2018.

Day has coached in both Texas and New Mexico, leading Alamogordo (New Mexico) to a state runner-up finish in 2006. In 1995, Day coached St. Pius X to a TAPPS state championship.

Day has also coached at Hooks, Snook, Onalaska and Hudson.

Day takes over over for Devin Anderson, who spent one year at Cumberland Academy.

After an 0-9 start to district play, Cumberland won its final three regular season against Brownsboro, Van and Lindale to force a four-way tie for the final playoff spot. The Knights ultimately lost to Van, 64-47, in the play-in tournament.

Cumberland made the playoffs in 2020 for the only time in program history.

Cumberland will be in District 16-4A for basketball with Carthage, Gilmer, Henderson, Kilgore, Pine Tree, Spring Hill and Chapel Hill for the next two school years.
