A new city center is coming soon to Whitehouse, officials announced Wednesday.

The City of Whitehouse said a new community center is in the works, expected to be complete by May 2025. The center will provide spaces for banquets, meetings, conferences and training along with some office space for the Whitehouse Economic Development Corporation and the Whitehouse Area Chamber of Commerce.

Through strategic planning, the mayor and Whitehouse City Council have funded the project while also lowering property taxes, according to an announcement the city posted on its Facebook page this week.

In 2018, the city council drafted the city’s first strategic plan.

“Identified as a key priority was the need to re-establish a central area of the community focused on a mixture of outdoor spaces, opportunities for collaboration, and enhancing the identity of the city,” the city stated. “City leaders further heard in a 2021 community survey that additional community spaces were desired and began working towards meeting these needs.”

For the past several years, the mayor and council have been purchasing property and enhancing partnerships with community organizations and individuals to meet these goals.

“So far, this has resulted in more room for the Whitehouse Farmers Market, more space for soccer fields and Whitehouse Sports Association on Whitehouse ISD property,” the city stated.

And soon, there will be a new community center. Its home will be at 109 E. Main.

With a completion date just about one year away, the city said it is “excited to begin seeing construction progress at the site.”
