Class 4A Region III Track and Field: Chapel Hill, Bullard, Gilmer, Kilgore, Palestine, Carthage, Henderson athletes qualify for state

BULLARD — Several East Texas athletes punched their ticket to the UIL Track and Field State Meet during the Class 4A Region III Track and Field Championships Friday and Monday at Panther Stadium.
The state meet for Class 4A will be May 2 at Mike A. Myers Track and Soccer Stadium at the University of Texas at Austin.

The top two finishers in each event automatically qualify and the best mark across the state that didn’t finish in the top two will qualify as a wild card.
Chapel Hill freshman Aryssa Cooper automatically qualified in the girls 200-meter dash with a time of 25.01 and the triple jump with a distance of 37-4.5. Cooper is also on the 4×100 relay team with Debani Oblitas, R’Nyah Tomlinson and Ilaysha McGregor that won with a time of 48.58.
Chapel Hill’s Jaylon Smith qualified with a second-place finish in the boys 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.44.
Bullard’s Brayden Vining is headed to state in the boys 800-meter run with a second-place finish in a time of 1:54.53.
Bullard’s Carly Tucker placed second in the girls long jump with a jump of 17-9.
Gilmer’s boys won the event with a total of 99 points, well ahead of second-place Burnet (63 points).

Will Henderson won the 100-meter dash for the Buckeyes with a time of 10.44.
The Buckeyes swept the boys relays. Trillyon Butler, Mykah Easley, Ta’Erik Tate and Henderson won the 4×100 relay with a time of 41.10. Butler, Easley, Tate and Dhrvay Smith won the 4×200 relay with a time of 1:25.46. Tate, Connor Dodd, Tru Griffin and Butler took first in the 4×400 relay with a time of 3:18.58.
Dodd also qualified in the boys 300-meter hurdles with a time of 39.31.
Brendan Webb won the boys high jump with a distance of 6-5, and Kilgore’s Jacory Walton placed second with a distance of 6-4.
Kilgore’s Braydon Nelson qualified in both the shot put and discus, taking first in both events. Nelson had a distance of 56-2 in the shot put and 187-3 in the discus.
Palestine’s team of Jon Denman, Ja’ron Johnson, Ti’Darion Crawford and Dreylon Spurlock placed second in the 4×200 relay with a time 1:26.71.
Gilmer’s team of Alondria Nelson, Evelyn Applegate, Tasyiah Lewis and Alexis Kemp won the girls 4×200 relay with a time of 1:42.91.
Carthage’s Sanaa Allison placed second in the girls high jump with a height of 5-6.
Henderson’s Cason Weatherton (23-9) and Sammy Meador (9-9) placed first and second in the wheelchair shot put.
Huffman Hargrave won the girls title with 67 points. Gilmer (54) placed second, and Chapel Hill (43) was third.
