LIBERTY CITY — Sabine High School boys basketball coach Colby Carr has resigned to take a similar position at Maud High School.

Assistant coach Ian Story has been promoted to the head coaching spot, according to Sabine athletic director Cody Gilbert.

“Coach Carr has done a tremendous job with our basketball program,” Gilbert said. “He is a great coach and a great friend. We are going to miss his presence. Coach Story has been an outstanding relationship-builder in his two years here, and has a great plan to continue our success and elevate our boys basketball program.”

Sabine finished 23-10 overall this season and captured the District 15-3A championship with a spotless 10-0 record. The Cardinals defeated Arp, 66-39, to open the Class 3A playoffs and then fell to Winnsboro (45-37) in the area playoffs.

Carr had a record of 123-93 in seven seasons at Sabine, including a 63-23 mark in district play with league titles in 2018, 2019 and 2024. His teams won three district championships, finishing as regional quarterfinalists in 2018 and 2019 and area finalist this past season.

This past season’s undefeated district team was the first for Sabine since 2009, earning Carr his second district Coach of the Year honors (2018).

Maud compiled a 13-19 record overall and a 5-5 worksheet in district play competing in a district with Detroit, James Bowie, Harts Bluff, Clarksville and Rivercrest.

Maud lost in the opening round of the playoffs to North Hopkins, 54-39.
