James Rickey Turner

MARSHALL — A funeral service for James Rickey Turner, 74, of Marshall, Texas will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 4, 2024, in the Chapel of Downs Funeral in Marshall, Texas. Entombment will follow at Colonial Gardens Cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel.

James was born on January 31, 1950, in Center, Texas to James Rudolph Turner and Jerry Hazel Bridwell Turner and passed away on March 31, 2024, at his residence.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1973 to 1975. He married Lawanda Jean Lear Turner on April 12, 2013, and the two remained married until his passing. He was a member of the Krewe of Elders, Cross Lake Dance Club, East Texas Geological Society, Shreveport Geological Society and the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Jerry Turner; son, Timothy Ganey and daughter, Tammy Helderbrandt.

He is survived by his wife, Lawanda Jean Turner of Marshall; children, Trent Turner and wife, Brynn of Mineola and Summer Willis and husband, Brian of Marshall; sister, Rebecca (Becky) Byassee of Marshall; grandchildren, Alyssa Willis and Kellan Willis of Marshall; James Turner, Hazel Turner, Clara Turner and Florence Turner of Mineola; Presley Turner of Glen Saint Mary, FL and Alexandra Alberts of Rinson, GA along with other family and friends.
