Softball Notebook: Grand Saline’s Alissa Fugate, Brownsboro’s Cheyenne Cowart take weekly honors

Grand Saline’s Alissa Fugate and Brownsboro’s Cheyenne Cowart have earned Tyler Morning Telegraph Softball Player of the Week honors for games played March 18-23.

Fugate is the Hitter of the Week, and Cowart is the Pitcher of the Week.

Fugate hit .833 with five hits, including a home run, four RBIs, a home run, six runs scored and four stolen bases.

Cowart threw a perfect game in a 6-0 win over Chapel Hill. Cowart threw 61 pitches in seven innings with 46 strikes. She struck out three batters and also had a 1.000 fielding percentage.

PITCHING

Neches’ Jessie Sumpter had 25 strikeouts, 16 in a 4-3 win over Kerens and nine in a 9-3 victory against Kerens. Sumpter, an Angelina College commit, picked up her 500th career strikeout in 52 games.

Hawkins’ Kalyn Ellison struck out 27 batters in 14 innings, allowing two earned runs with two walks in a shutout and a two-hitter.

Grand Saline’s Hannah Aaron went 2-0 with 22 strikeouts, allowing three earned runs and three walks in two games.

Bullard’s Anistyn Foster threw a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts in seven innings in a win over Hudson.

Mineola’s Jadelyn Marshall picked up two wins, allowing two runs on six hits with 14 strikeouts and two walks.

Whitehouse’s Grace Ann McDonald allowed six hits and struck out five in three innings.

Mabank’s Khilyn Wilkinson went 2-0, allowing three earned runs with six strikeouts in 11 innings.

Troup’s Taylor Gillispie went 2-0, allowing one earned run on two hits with 21 strikeouts and two walks in nine innings.

HITTING

Tyler Legacy’s Alayla Underwood went 4-for-6 (.667) with a triple, a double and three runs. Kylee Tapia went 3-for-5 (.600) with a home run, a double, four RBIs, two runs and a stolen base.

Grand Saline’s Hannah Aaron hit .667 with four hits, including a home run, a double and four RBIs.

Bullard’s Matti Nix hit .500 with two stolen bases, a walk, three runs scored and two RBIs in wins over Hudson and Jacksonville.

Mineola’s Caroline Castleberry went 6-for-8 (.750) with three runs and three stolen bases. Kali Chrietzberg went 3-for-5 (.600) with a home run, a double, two RBIs, three runs and a walk. Jaycee Smith went 3-for-5 (.600) with three RBIs, two runs, a walk and a stolen base. Mahayla McMahon went 4-for-7 (.571) with a triple, three RBIs, three runs and two stolen bases.

Whitehouse’s Kate Jones went 3-for-8 (.429) with two runs scored.

Mabank’s Presley Green went 4-for-5 (.800) with five RBIs. Kai Hudson went 6-for-8 (.750) with three doubles and six RBIs.

West Rusk’s Dustyn Redden had a home run, three doubles, a single and six RBIs. Kyrsten Price had two home runs, a double and four RBIs.

Troup’s MaKayla Spencer went 2-for-3 (.667) with a home run, three RBIs, two runs, two walks, a hit by pitch and two stolen bases. Bailey Blanton went 3-for-5 (.600) with two doubles, five RBIs, three runs, two walks and two stolen bases.
