Many community event organizers have kept a close watch on the potential for severe weather, especially for Saturday. Some took precautions and rescheduled for another day.

The East Texas Auto & Cycle Show the event will go on as scheduled, organizers announced Friday afternoon.

While there is still a chance of showers, it is likely East Texas will not see that until later in the day.

“We greatly appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding,” a Facebook post on the auto show’s page said. “There is a lot of planning and preparation that takes place and this was not an easy decision for the committee to make. We hope to see everyone tomorrow to help support the East Texas Crisis Center.”

The East Texas Auto & Cycle Show benefits the East Texas Crisis Center, which provides safety, shelter, counseling, advocacy, and education to survivors of family violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and other violent crimes in Smith, Wood, Rains, Henderson, and Van Zandt counties.

Its services include counseling, an emergency shelter, legal advocacy, support groups, economic education and life skills classes, educational programs for kids and nursery care for infants.

Celebrating its 34th year, the East Texas Auto & Cycle Show will kick off at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler where the parking lot will be filled with various vehicles from every decade, including some that are extremely rare.

There will be a raffle drawing where a winner will receive a 1965 Mustang. So far, the raffle has raised $58,400 for the crisis center. Tickets are still available for $10 as of Friday afternoon.

Winners do not have to be present at the drawing and will be notified by phone or mail if they are not in attendance.

The event is free to attend and will conclude at 2 p.m.
