Tyler police arrest suspect after 3-year-old shot

Tyler Police Department officers responded to an apartment complex after a 3-year-old child was shot just after 10 a.m. Wednesday.

The child was alert, awake, and transported to UT Main in Tyler by EMS. As of 9 p.m. Wednesday night, police said the child had been transported to Dallas with non-life-threatening injuries. 



The suspect was located by Tyler officers on 26th Street, across the street from Liberty Arms Apartments complex where police responded to the shooting.

Darius Jubarne Davis, 30, of Tyler, has been identified as the suspect, police said. He was booked into the Smith County Jail for aggravated assault and other charges.

There is information that the child’s mother and the suspect are acquaintances, police said. This was not a random shooting, police said.

Davis was transported to the hospital prior to being booked into the jail due to injuries not related to this incident, police said.

Davis was released from the hospital as of Wednesday night and faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault with deadly weapon, possession of marijuana, manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

He remains in jail on a $500,000 bond.

The case remains under investigation.
