Foster: Following the drumbeat of impending doom

Is there no end to the insanity that drives Donald Trump and his minions to assure his re-election in November? Here’s a blueprint for a radical scheme as promulgated in an opinion piece by Rex Huppke in USA Today:
“True MAGA patriots must remove themselves from Biden’s booming economy, cash out 401(k)s. There must be fear!”

Here’s more of a proposed Trump campaign strategy, according to Huppke:
“To all devoted MAGA patriots aboard the Trump Train: America’s economy appears to have gone woke and is now fully supporting the re-election of Crooked Joe Biden. I’m not sure how this happened, but no matter how much we say the economy is terrible it keeps posing a direct threat” to Trump in the 2024 presidential race.
“None of this is good news if you care about President Trump or America. It’s clear Democrats are manipulating the economy and making it the strongest economy in the world in order to fool voters into thinking Biden is a competent president,” the article continues.
Wait a minute! Isn’t Trump running around the country claiming credit for the strong economic numbers? In January alone, 353,00 new jobs were added to the economy, far surpassing estimates. Wages increased 0.6 percent, about double the prevailing rate in inflation.
Despite such good news about the economy, President Biden’s poll numbers remain below 50 percent thanks to the endless drumbeat of impending doom by Trump and other Republican naysayers. Here’s more:
“It is ABSOLUTELY imperative that you not feel confident about the future. America is a terrible place. It is falling apart. The economy is in shambles and your personal economic situation is a garbage fire,” Huppke writes.

Trump may have trouble contradicting America’s so-called “bad economy” by asking his supporters to fulfill his dire forecast for the future.
“Don’t believe me? If you own stocks or have a 401(K), just look at your balance and you’ll see EXACTLY what these cheaters are up to. They’re trying to buy your votes by putting money in your pockets. That’s cheating. DON’T BE FOOLED,” Huppke opines.
He continues, “Next you must quit your job. It’s on us to help President Trump’s campaign by bringing those unemployment numbers back up to where we think they should be… If you aren’t willing to quit your job, you must at least refuse any raise you’re offered. Only a squishy lib would allow himself to get paid more while a DEMONcrat is in office.”
“So get out there, fellow patriot, and disconnect from Biden’s economy. Sell stocks, put your retirement money in Trump’s coffers, embrace the gloom,” he concludes.
This satirical piece would never be issued by Trump’s campaign, but given the blind belief that many of his supporters have, some MAGA followers would fall for many elements of this scheme.
A GoFundMe campaign already is underway to help Trump pay his massive $355 million penalty in his latest tax and bank fraud case. More than $1 million has been donated to the fund so far. And if those donations keep on coming, maybe he won’t need to sell as many of those $399 Trump sneakers now on the market.
No doubt, Huppke is trying to bring attention to Trump’s egotistical nature. He deflects any blame, assumes all credit and doesn’t care a hoot about everyday Americans.
He lied and cheated his way to winning the presidential election once, so he’s sure that he can do it again.
