- Texas House District 6 candidates Cody Grace, left, and Daniel Alders will be on the ballot in the November general election.
Nearly 20,000 Smith County residents voted in the uncontested Texas House District 6 race during Super Tuesday. A majority of those voters chose the Republican ballot.
The Republican and Democrat candidates were uncontested in the primary elections. Republican candidate Daniel Alders will face Democrat candidate Cody Grace in November. Each candidate was visible ahead of the primaries and thanked voters for showing up.
“What a big day! We won the primary and now on to the general election in November!” Grace said on his campaign Facebook page.
Alders said although he was uncontested in the primary, he appreciated all conversations and interactions he had with Smith County voters during the process.
“I look forward to more in the coming months across our community,” Alders said in a post on his campaign Facebook page. “… Now we look to November and turning out in record numbers to keep Texas red!”
In Smith County, Alders received 16,329 votes in the primary, while Grace received 3,499 votes.
After November’s election, one of the two will be elected to fill the seat currently held by Rep. Matt Schaefer (R-Tyler), who announced in August he would not seek reelection.
Schaefer was first elected in 2012. He said he will remain focused until his term ends and if State Sen. Bryan Hughes ever chooses higher office, he will consider running for Texas Senate.
Schaefer, and Hefner, have both endorsed Alders in the race.
