Traffic lights are installed at FM 848 and University Boulevard/Spur 248 in 2018. The temporary traffic signals at West Gentry Parkway and West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard were set to be replaced Monday.

On Monday, the temporary traffic signals at West Gentry Parkway and West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard were set to be replaced. Work to the traffic signal began at 9 a.m., and the light was anticipated to be dark until noon.

During the traffic signal replacement, there were some lane closures, and Tyler police officers were directing traffic.

History

In 2022, the Tyler City Council approved designing a new traffic signal infrastructure and installing new equipment at the intersection of West Gentry Parkway and West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

The existing traffic signal and associated equipment were past their lifespan, and the traffic signal mast arms were deteriorating and in need of replacement.

The project includes installing a new traffic signal cabinet, traffic signal poles, underground conduit, cabling, pedestrian signals, curb ramps, and pavement markings.

The project is funded through the Half-Cent Sales Tax Fund.
