Fit City Tyler is providing the chance for anyone in East Texas to win $5,000 cash in the return of the free Lighten Up East Texas regional weight loss challenge.

To enter, take the first two numbers of your weight, and divide that number by 2. That answer is your 5% goal. If you can lose that many pounds by Friday, May 3, then you will be entered in a random drawing for $5,000 cash, according to NET Health.

“East Texas has a higher percentage of residents with preventable chronic health conditions such as Type 2 Diabetes, high blood pressure, depression, and heart disease as compared to the rest of Texas and to most of the United States,” said George Roberts, NET Health CEO and co-founder of Fit City Tyler. “Lighten Up East Texas strengthens the community partnerships that Fit City Tyler has with many of the health and wellness resources that exist in East Texas Tyler and for our community partners to join Fit City Tyler’s mission to make Tyler a healthier city – one step, one bite, and one health-conscious decision at a time.”

Registration is now open at over 20 public entry locations across East Texas. School campuses, private businesses, and community groups can also create private weighing opportunities for their employees by contacting Fit City Tyler and receiving access to the online registration process.

“A company does not have to be a ‘health-related business’ in order to weigh their employees and customers into Lighten Up East Texas,” says Terrence Ates, planning committee member for Fit City Tyler. “There is no fee to become a weighing location and the registration period remains open until Wednesday January 31st.”

The wide variety of companies that have been private weighing locations include school nurse clinics, city government employees, police departments, county government employees, church recreation buildings, distribution centers, fire departments, doctors’ offices, grocery stores, pharmacies, branch bank locations, restaurants, city halls, libraries and community centers.
