A downtown Tyler coffee shop will close its doors this month.
Shine Cafe & Art will be closing its doors on Dec. 21, the cafe announced Friday afternoon on its Facebook page. Although the cafe and coffee spot is closing, the owner says the move allows the opportunity to serve more people through its nonprofit.

“For over 2 years, Shine Cafe & Art has been Downtown Tyler’s living room, and we have loved providing a comforting place to gather. We opened the doors to the cafe with the single purpose of becoming the public access point for Shine, a nonprofit that lights the way for single moms. Over the years, the cafe & art space has introduced many women and friends in the community to Shine’s mission,” the statement reads.
Shine said it is proud to say the ministry has grown and reached women all over the country, in addition to the many mothers in East Texas.
“As public awareness has spread, the needs of even more women have been brought to our attention,” the statement reads. “It is our intention that, beginning in the new year, we will streamline our focus by closing Shine Cafe & Art and directing all of our energy into helping more women.”
The organization said while it will miss serving its faithful customers at the cafe, it is “extremely excited to increase Shine’s reach and continue to light the way for even more single moms.”
Shine is located at 112 Broadway Ave. Its current hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, 10 am to 8 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Dec. 21 will be the last day the cafe is open.
