The Tyler City Council adopted a resolution to suspend the Dec. 4 effective date of CenterPoint Energy Resources Corporation’s requested rate change to permit time to study the request and establish reasonable rates.
City Attorney Deborah Pullum said in October, the energy corporation sent a statement of intent to raise the rates for the Beaumont/East Texas distribution area, which includes Tyler.
The company asserted its rates need to be raised by $37.4 million, an increase of about 5.8% over the current adjusted revenues. It also proposes consolidating the Houston district and the rest of Texas into a single division.
The city adopted the resolution to have time to study the rate increase and determine if the increase is fair and responsible, Pullum said.
