Chapel Hill takes down Iowa Colony in playoffs

Chapel Hill defeated Iowa Colony and will now face Kilgore on Friday in Longview.

SHENANDOAH — Chapel Hill took a 42-21 win over Iowa Colony on Friday night at Woodforest Bank Stadium to set up a District 9-4A Division I rematch in the Class 4A Division Region III final.

Chapel Hill will face Kilgore in a battle of the Bulldogs at 7 p.m. Friday at Lobo Stadium in Longview.

Kilgore took a 39-16 win over Chapel Hill on Nov. 3 in the regular season finale. Chapel Hill has eliminated Kilgore from the playoffs in each of the past two seasons on the way to reaching the state semifinals.

Facing an Iowa Colony team that eliminated Lindale with a 45-22 decision a week ago, Chapel Hill jumped up 14-0 in the first quarter with a 22-yard touchdown pass from Demetrius Bribson to Cameron Kelley and a 24-yard touchdown run by Jabo Cook.



Iowa Colony got on the board in the second quarter with a 53-yard touchdown pass from Carson White to Jayden Warren.

Rickey Stewart answered with a 50-yard touchdown run to push the score to 21-7 before Iowa Colony scored on a 22-yard pass to make the score 21-14 at halftime.

After stopping Iowa Colony on the opening drive of the second half, the Bulldogs got a 2-yard touchdown run to go up 28-14. A 37-yard touchdown pass from Brisbon to Stewart put the score at 35-14 with 1:43 to play in the third quarter.

Iowa Colony (12-1) blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown with 10:14 remaining in the contest. Chapel Hill added a 10-yard touchdown run with 3:00 on the clock, and Dillon Johnson intercepted an Iowa Colony pass in the end zone to seal the victory for the Bulldogs (11-2).

Brisbon was 7 of 13 for 98 yards and two touchdowns, and he had 21 carries for 194 yards and a touchdown. Stewart had 21 carries for 118 yards and two touchdowns, and he caught two passes for 34 yards and a score. Cook had six carries for 71 yards and a touchdown.
