Tyler Legacy’s journey through the high school tennis playoffs will continue on Thursday.

The Red Raiders — ranked No. 21 in Class 6A and No. 4 in Class 6A Region II — will take on The Woodlands — ranked No. 7 in the state and No. 1 in the region — at 1 p.m. Thursday at Mansfield Lake Ridge High School.

“I think we’ve played really well,” Tyler Legacy tennis coach Charlie Sizemore said. “The real thing this year is the confidence of our kids. They’re not afraid to play anybody. We’ve got a good veteran team.”

Legacy (20-2) is in the regional semifinals for the second straight year and third time in the past four years, facing The Woodlands each time.

“I want us to go out and compete and battle with them,” Sizemore said.

Sizemore said the key is getting off to a strong start in doubles, winning at least three or four of the seven matches.

Legacy has played a challenging schedule with the only two losses coming to No. 3 Plano West and No. 4 Allen.

Seniors for Legacy are Audrey Deatherage, Sara Fry, Savannah Allen and Sapphire Nunn on the girls side and Michael Collins, Gabriel Oxler and Walker East on the boys side.

The Red Raiders picked up a 10-0 win over Wylie on Tuesday.

Others on the team are Nathan Kiblinger, Owen Brandt, Michael Rowan, JT Beaulieu, Adrian Villapudua, Sophie Miller, Bridget Gaston, Ade Briggs and Maddy Mitchum.

The winner on Thursday will advance to face either Waco Midway or The Woodlands College Park at 10 a.m. Friday.
