A change in food service providers at seven Christus hospitals in Texas shouldn’t affect employees working in those areas, as they’re expected to transition to working for Morrison instead of Aramark.

The change affects Christus Good Shepherd in Longview and Christus Trinity Mother Frances in Tyler, along with the other five hospitals.

The employees work in a variety of jobs in cafeteria services at the hospitals, from administrators and dietitians to hourly workers such as cashiers and cooks, according to a required layoff notice Aramark filed with the state.

Aramark said in the notification to the Texas Workforce Commission that it would no longer provide cafeteria services to the Christus hospitals after Oct. 31. Christus said Morrison takes over Nov. 1.

The move affects 97 Aramark employees at Christus Good Shepherd in Longview and 163 Aramark employees at Christus Trinity Mother Frances hospital in Tyler, according to the notice to the state.

“Our agreement to provide services to Christus Health has concluded. It is our understanding that affected employees will be hired by the Health System’s new provider,” Chris Collum, Aramark’s vice president of corporate communications, said in a statement. “We are also working with impacted employees to access other job opportunities within our company.”

Christus spokesman Coleman Swierc said the hospital system does not expect the change will result in any service or employment disruptions.

“While technically these employees will be laid off from Aramark, we expect them to transition immediately to employment with Morrison,” he said, in a prepared statement.
