Tyler Legacy is heading to the Thanksgiving break with a 55-15 win over Nacogdoches on Tuesday afternoon at Tyler Legacy Varsity Gymnasium.

“I thought we got better this past weekend,” Tyler Legacy head coach Ross Barber said.

“We played four tough games. We’re growing. There’s still a lot of things we’ve got to work on. I would’ve liked to seen us play a lot cleaner in the second half of this game obviously, but we’re young and still trying to figure out how to put the hammer down on somebody. We’ve got room to grow. The effort was good. I’m going to give them a couple of days off, because I think that’s what they need, and then we will regroup and have a couple of hard practices before we play Tyler High next Tuesday.”

The Lady Raiders came out firing from deep, knocking down four threes in the first quarter. La’Daija Gallon hit the first one, and Rose Rook hit three of her own. Ella Rook had a layup mixed in there as Legacy led 14-0 after the opening quarter.

The Lady Raiders stretched their lead to 18-0 in the second quarter on layups by Gallon and I’Onna Jones before Zariyya Swindle put the Lady Dragons on the board with 6:17 left in the half.

Legacy added four more threes in the half — two by McKenzie Boone, one by Gallon and one by Zion Smith. Nacogdoches got a triple from Jassidy Fletcher, but the Lady Dragons trailed 34-5 at halftime.

The Lady Raiders led 48-11 after three quarters.

Nacogdoches was 6 of 27 from the field and had 38 turnovers.

Legacy finished the game with 10 made 3-pointers.

Rose Rook was the game-high scorer with 11 points. Gallon, Smith and Boone all had 8 points. I’Onna Jones scored 6 points. Bianca Mumphrey and Zalai Jasper each had 4 points. Senoj Jones, Ella Rook and Cinahya Ekwuruke all had 2 points. Boone and Mumphrey each had five steals.

Fletcher led Nacogodches with 5 points.

Legacy (4-3) will play at rival Tyler on Nov. 29.
