JEFFERSON

Democratic congressional candidate Jrmar Jefferson has scheduled a public campaign rally 5:30 p.m. today in Carthage at the Carthage Community House in Davis Park.

Jefferson is the Democratic candidate for the 1st Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives held by Republican U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert. Gohmert chose not to seek reelection, and Jefferson will face Republican Smith County Judge Nathaniel Moran in the November general election.

Jefferson is from Texarkana and lives there. For a while, he moved to California where he attended college and began getting involved in politics, he said. He’s also served as a delegate for Bernie Sanders at the 2016 convention.
