TSWA Class 4A Baseball: Canton’s Ace Reese named to first team; Bullard’s David Wilson, Rusk’s JD Thompson earn second-team honors

Canton’s Ace Reese was a first-team selection, and Bullard’s David Wilson and Rusk’s JD Thompson were both named to the second team with the release of the Blue Bell/Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 4A All-State Baseball Team.
Reese, a junior, was a first-team selection at shortstop. The University of Houston pledge hit .524 with two home runs, 19 doubles, four triples, 43 RBIs and 14 stolen bases with just six strikeouts all season.
Wilson, a sophomore, was 12-1 with a 1.76 ERA with 93 strikeouts and 21 walks in 73.1 innings.
Thompson, a senior Vanderbilt signee, was 6-0 with a 0.27 ERA with 93 strikeouts and 10 walks in 50.1 innings. He was 27-6 in his career with a 0.70 ERA with 377 strikeouts and 50 walks in 219.2 innings.
Also earning first-team honors were Spring Hill senior pitcher Easton Ballard, Spring Hill senior outfielder Marshall Lipsey and Carthage junior second baseman Noah Paddie.
Ballard was 14-1 with a 1.06 ERA with 133 strikeouts and 23 walks in 91.2 innings. Lipsey hit .471 with two home runs, 13 doubles, seven triples, 35 RBIs, 46 runs and 29 stolen bases. Paddie, a Texas A&M commit, hit .358 with two home runs, 10 doubles, 28 RBIs, 36 runs and 28 stolen bases.
Joining the second team was Pleasant Grove sophomore outfielder Brenton Clark. Clark hit .424 with two home runs, 37 runs, 14 doubles, four triples and 30 RBIs.
Brownsboro sophomore relief pitcher Cooper Schock and Chapel Hill senior second baseman Sean Gentry were both named to the third team.
Schock was 3-0 with seven saves and a 0.32 ERA. Gentry hit .389 with four doubles, one triple, 21 runs, 13 RBIs and 17 stolen bases.
Sinton’s Blake Mitchell and Jaquae Stewart shared Player of the Year honors. Mitchell, who played shortstop, batted .465 with seven home runs and 52 RBIs. He also was 6-0 pitching with a 0.39 earned run average with 67 strikeouts in 35.1 innings. Stewart, who played first base, batted .414 with 11 homers and 52 RBIs. He also was 8-0 pitching with a 0.17 ERA. The two juniors led Sinton to the state title. Sinton head coach Adrian Alaniz was named Coach of the Year.
East Texans earning honorable mention honors were Rusk senior pitcher Maosn Cirkel, Spring Hill junior pitcher Connor Smeltzer, Carthage senior pitcher Braeden Wade, Lindale senior first baseman Sam Peterson, Carthage junior shortstop Conner Cuff, Pleasant Grove senior outfielder Brock Bearden, Pittsburg senior outfielder Brayden Bolton and Kilgore senior outfielder Chris Ervin.
