Letters to the Editor

Your Saturday, June 13, article in sports, UT Athletes Drop School song, etc.:

This situation is a perfect example of the tail wagging the dog, and the dog — University of Texas — being OK with it.

Remember when “the new coach” spent around a million dollars on new locker rooms, etc. in the athlete facility? His teams haven’t done as much as predicted, either.

The removing of statues like the Jeff Davis in 2015 and R.E. Lee in 2017 showed the weak-kneed syndrome correctives of Texas’ president board.

It is a shame that one such as myself has no respect for what used to be the state’s flagship school. I’m using “school” on purpose here.

A lot of eyes aren’t on Texas University anymore, and sure won’t be if the state song is deleted.

I am suggesting a song, “The frowns of Texas are upon you.”

SIN PROBLEM

Minneapolis has a big problem, it’s a sin problem. Jesus gave us answers to all problems. Love your neighbor as you love yourself, do unto others as you would want them to do to you.

Years ago, my mother told me about a disagreement she had with her sister over a rag doll. Both claimed ownership. My great-uncle became Solomon and made the decision to take the doll and tear it in half. He asked each one which half they wanted, but none replied. My mother being the oldest decided to let her younger sister have it.

Those who have looted and destroyed other people’s property are lawbreakers. All Christians and Jesus have been taught “God’s Laws,” the Ten Commandments. If you break one, you have broken all of them, as each law is from God.

There will come a day when we will all have to face our Creator for our mistakes.

A HEALTH CARE LEADER

In the 1980s as vice president of finance at Baylor University Medical Center, I also helped train young administrative residents including the current president of Baylor, John McWhorter, I also recommended residents to other health care systems in Texas as they completed their Baylor rotation. One young man from Memphis, Tennessee, was a standout in every respect.

A longtime friend and fellow administrator, Lindsey Bradley in Tyler, asked me to recommend someone to join Mother Frances Hospital as an assistant administrator in 1986. I gave him this resident’s information and he was recruited to Tyler. A year later, I joined him as senior vice president/chief financial officer of finance.

I am very pleased that George Roberts, FACHE, stayed in East Texas and has taken public health to new levels at Net Health and is president of the National Association of City-County Health Organizations.

He is helping to train the next generation of health leaders. All would do well to follow his advise.

SOCIALISTIC STATE

It is nearing time to vote for a president of these United States. In view of all the protests, anarchy, rioting and vandalism going on, look at your candidates real close before you cast your vote, as many of our prospective liberal candidates are espousing some if not all of the following views:

Control health care and you control the people. Increase the poverty level as high as possible, as poor people are easier to control and will not fight back if you are providing everything for them. Increase the debt to an unsustainable level. That way you are able to increase taxes, and this will provide more poverty. Remove the ability to defend themselves from the government. That way you are able to create a police state.

Take control of every aspect (food, housing, income) of their lives because that will make them fully dependent on the government. Take control of what people read and listen to and take control of what children learn in school. Remove the belief in God from the government and schools because the people need to believe in ONLY the government knowing what is best for the people. Divide the people into the wealthy and the poor. Divide the people racially. Eliminate the middle class. This will cause more discontent and it will be easier to tax the wealthy with the support of the poor.

These are the eight levels of control to create a socialistic state. I see a pattern emerging and I am scared for our country and nation.
