Smith County COVID-19 recoveries increase by 10, no new cases reported

Coronavirus recoveries in Smith County continue to rise with an additional 10 reported on Friday for overall count of 152, according to the Northeast Texas Public Health District.

No new cases were reported on Friday and the active count is 42. The total confirmed positive cases is at 198.



In Smith County, there are 42 active coronavirus cases, 152 recovered patients and four coronavirus deaths.

Tyler hospitals are currently treating 37 patients from East Texas for the coronavirus, which is up by 14 since Thursday.

A 68-year-old Tyler man, a 78-year-old Tyler man, a 91-year-old Hideaway man and a 56-year-old Troup man have died because of COVID-19.

NET Health updates recovery numbers on Tuesdays and Fridays.

The numbers came from the joint information center made up of agencies, including the city of Tyler, Smith County, NET Health and Tyler ISD.

Of the 198 cases, 163 are in Tyler, nine in Flint, six in Whitehouse, six in Lindale, four in Troup, two in Bullard, two in Overton, two in Arp and one each in Hideaway, Winona, Kilgore and rural Smith County near Mineola.

One-hundred and sixty-five cases are a result of community spread and 33 are travel-related.

Here is the breakdown of cases:

• 0-20, 14 cases

• 21-40, 76 cases

• 41-59, 62 cases

• 60-79, 42 cases

• 80 and over, 4 cases

Of the 198 cases, 102 are men and 96 are women.

Through May 21, a total of 3,588 tests were performed on patients from Smith County.

Other counties

Wood County reported one new case Friday for a current count of 23. The county has had one COVID-19 death, an 83-year-old Winnsboro woman, and 15 recoveries, according to NET Health data.

Van Zandt County has 26 cases. The county has had one death, a 47-year-old Murchison woman, and 15 recoveries.

Henderson County reported three cases for a total of 55, including 25 recoveries, according to NET Health.

Anderson County added two cases for a total of 66, including 19 recoveries, NET Health reported.

In Gregg County, there are 187 cases, including 57 recoveries and four deaths, according to the Gregg County Health Department.

Cherokee County reported one case for a total of 42, which includes 18 recoveries and two deaths, according to the Cherokee County Public Health Department.

Rains County has three cases, NET Health reported.
