Rose City Summer Camps will continue as planned with activities on Tyler ISD middle school campuses in June and July.

Organizers announced Wednesday that the camps will go on after receiving guidelines from Gov. Greg Abbott about precautions that must be followed at summer camp to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

“As with every summer, the safety of our campers is our first and foremost focus,” Matthew Honeycutt, director of Rose City Summer Camps, said in a news release. “Our medical director, Dr. Scott Lawrence, has crafted policies and procedures based on medical data that follows the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and state guidelines and continue to allow us to provide an engaging and memorable experience for kids this summer.”

Rose City Summer Camps, a ministry of The Mentoring Alliance in partnership with Tyler ISD, is “committed to sharing the Gospel and showing children the love of Christ in a real, tangible and life-changing way,” the announcement said.

The camp, which traditionally attracts hundreds of campers, offers academic learning, Bible study, mentorship and traditional fun summer camp activities.

The goal, Honeycutt said, is to give campers an “impactful and life-changing summer.”

The camps are available for students who have completed kindergarten through fifth grades. Activities will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays for eight weeks beginning June 1 at Boulter, Hubbard, Moore and Three Lakes Middle Schools.

The cost is $149 per week and includes breakfast, lunch, snacks and drinks. Parents who would like to enroll their children, can call 903-593-9211 or visit rosecitysummercamps.com.

Financial assistance and transportation is available, the announcement said.
