Greg Cranfill leaving Wills Point to be new head football coach at Houston St. Pius X

Wills Point will be in search of a new head football coach.

Houston St. Pius X announced on Thursday that Greg Cranfill would be the school’s new head football coach.



“I am really looking forward to seeing what Coach Cranfill brings to the program,” said St. Pius X athletic director Jeff Feller in the school’s news release. “He is a gifted, hardworking, and dedicated coach; I am certain he will be a great addition to our coaching staff and help lead the Panthers to many victories on and off the field.”

Cranfill spent the past six seasons at Wills Point, leading the Tigers to the playoffs in five of those campaigns.

This past season, Wills Point went 6-5 and lost to Fairfield in the first round of the playoffs, 37-21.

Cranfill’s record as a head coach is 51-46. He was 19-13 from 2004-06 at Itasca and 32-33 from 2014-19 at Wills Point.

Cranfill has also coached at Commerce, Hillsboro, Flower Mound Marcus and Van Vleck.

He has coached NFL and NBA players Josh Carraway (Tennessee Titans), Kaden Smith (New York Giants), Keaton Sutherland (Miami Dolphins), Jason Neil (Cleveland Browns) and former Rice University standout Michael Harris (Houston Rockets).

St. Pius X is coming off a 2-9 record in 2019.
