Letters to the Editor

When Mr. Trump was elected, I felt that there might have been some Divine Intervention. He knows where Hillary would have taken us. Now, I feel that this virus scare may be God’s way of showing everyone what happens when our economy shuts down, as it would have had she won and will happen if the Dems get their way.

We have seen what throwing money at the problem will do. Everybody gets a check, but nobody really benefits. Simply printing more money and writing checks is insanity. Greed, self-indulgence and petulance are as much of a killer as any virus, except they kill the will and the soul, not just the body. The “give me, give me” groups and the “give um, give um” groups don’t know, or don’t seem to realize, that they, or their children, somebody in the future, will have to pay all of it back.

At first, “they” told us that we couldn’t pray in school, now “they” are telling us that we can’t meet in the name of the Lord. Just where might we be headed? I pray, as we all should, that we beat this “thing” quickly and get things back to normal. Get rid of the “Corona Cops” and let everybody go back to work. God did really bless America, let’s all pray and work to keep it that way.

TEXAS COULD LEAD

What is our mitigation plan right now? It seems we intend to hide from the virus in our homes until it thinks it has no more customers to infect and dies out. This seems to be the way pandemics work. If they can’t continue to infect, their shelf life is only a few days.

The problem with our current approach is twofold: 1) We keep going out into public places for necessities; thus reinfecting others or becoming infected. 2) The economy. We can’t keep our economy on pause long enough for this plan to be effective, if in fact it ever could be. What’s the logical approach? We have to stay hid and fool the virus but at the same time be able to carry on with somewhat normal activities. How do we accomplish this? Governor Abbot must immediately issue an executive order requiring everyone to wear a face mask and sanitize their hands before entering any incorporated area, place of business or other public area (essentially any place but home). This approach along with our current disinfecting procedures would greatly mitigate infecting others or becoming infected. Any public place or place of business would be required to post someone at the entry to ensure that the face mask is in place and that they sanitize their hands before entering. Failure to follow protocol would need to be punishable by a fine, or jail time for those that flatly refuse. I know this approach seems harsh and inconvenient but sickness and death trumps inconvenience, at least until this thing is over.

Masks could be commercial throw-aways or homemade to simple state or CDC guidelines (anything is better than nothing). Entrepreneurs will jump all over this with stylish and desirable designs that will be fashionable to wear (Etsy is already onto it). Some imaginative genius will come up with a restaurant design that complies with regulations. Could happen!

I can see no reason, following these simple guidelines, that most people couldn’t return to work and to somewhat a normal life. Let’s hope our president comes up with a national safe back to work policy soon. Meanwhile, Texas could lead the way!
