Much like the child in the book Miranda wrote with her Mom, Miranda is enjoying the quarantine free time, sitting outside in the sun drawing pictures.

Seventh-grade teacher Tasha Marsh and her fourth-grade daughter Miranda, like many, have had a lot of free time on their hands during the quarantine.

During their break from face-to-face classes at Tyler Classical Academy, the duo was inspired to write a children’s book together to help young kids understand social distancing. The proceeds from the book will be donated to ChildHelp, an organization dedicated to aiding children who are victims of child abuse.

“I used to work for Child Protective Services so this cause is near and dear to my heart,” said Marsh. “Miranda and I like creating stories and come up with stories a lot. We wanted to come up with one to help children understand social distancing, and we came up with the book ‘Hello Sunshine.’”

According to Marsh, the book is about a little boy who starts finding out about social distancing and has questions. He doesn’t understand words like quarantine and is concerned that school is closed. He hears his parents talking but he doesn’t understand. He begins to talk to his friend the sun, and they go on adventures together and decide to have fun, knowing that life will return back to normal soon.

“We had a lot of fun writing the book together,” said Marsh. “Miranda did most of the illustrations. We are hoping the book is successful so that we can raise money for the ChildHelp organization and help victims of child abuse.”
