The first shoppers come through the doors at 5 p.m. for Black Friday sales on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, 2019 at Broadway Square Mall.

Simon Property Group, which owns the Broadway Square Mall in Tyler, announced Wednesday that all of its retail properties across the United States will close.

The company said the properties will remain closed through the end of March 29.

The decision was made after extensive discussions with federal, state and local officials and out of concerns to address the spread of the coronavirus.

Simon closed all of its retail properties, including malls, premium outlets and mills.

While the company’s stock was down, on Wednesday, stock went up from $45.16 a share to $46.50.

“The health and safety of our shoppers, retailers and employees is of paramount importance and we are taking this step to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our communities,” said David Simon, the chairman, CEO and president of Simon.
