Baylor Scott & White Texas Spine and Joint Hospital in Tyler provides specialized care to patients

Baylor Scott & White Texas Spine & Joint hosts dozens of medical bays, used to prepare patients for surgery

With a patient-focused approach, physicians at one East Texas hospital help people in need of back, neck, spine and joint treatments.

Baylor Scott & White Texas Spine and Joint Hospital in Tyler is an award-winning facility offering services in radiology, inpatient and outpatient surgery, interventional pain management, physical therapy, athletic training outreach, urgent care, back and neck, joint replacement, orthopedics and sports medicine.

The hospital has been open in Tyler since 2002. The hospital became a joint venture between Baylor Scott & White Health and United Surgical Partners in August 2017. The hospital physicians still have interest and ownership as well.

Baylor Scott & White Texas Spine and Joint Hospital Chief Nursing Officer Aaron Fleet said anyone with an orthopedic or musculoskeletal need can come to the hospital.

“We are a speciality facility,” Fleet said. “We focus on a few things and we work to do those things really well.”



The hospital has customer service from excellent staff who truly care about the patient, Fleet said.

“We provide a full spectrum of care,” he said. “Every patient is treated uniquely and for what they need.”

The hospital received a five-star rating in overall quality and patient experience by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. It was also named as high performing in joint replacement and spine surgery in 2018 and 2019 by US News & World Report.

The main location is at 1814 Roseland Boulevard Suite 100 in Tyler, and the Baylor Scott & White Texas Spine & Joint Hospital Surgery Center is at 3414 Golden Road in Tyler. There is also an Orthopedic Clinic & Imaging Services in Longview at 725 Fourth Street.

There is also physical therapy at the Baylor Scott & White Texas Spine and Joint Hospital Sports Medicine and Therapy Services at Grande in Tyler. 

Past honors for the hospital include America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Spine Surgery and Five-Star Recipient for Spinal Fusion Surgery from 2013 to 2018.

In sports medicine, the hospital offers advanced physical therapy, orthopedic consultation and treatment, diet and nutrition, workout classes, yoga and personal trainers, osteoporosis consultation and treatment, biomechanics and motion capture, according to its website.

For its work in general orthopedics, the hospital has received the following awards: Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Joint Replacement from 2015 to 2017, Healthgrades Joint Replacement Excellence Award from 2014 to 2017, named in the top 5% in the nation for joint replacement from 2015 to 2017, Healthgrades 5-Star Recipient for Total Knee Replacement from 2014 to 2017 and Total Hip Replacement from 2012 to 2017 and Press Ganey “Guardian of Excellence” Award from 2014 to 2016.

In 2015, the facility was recognized for having a great orthopedic program in 2015 by Becker’s Hospital Review.

The hospital also offers joint and spine camps for patients to become more educated regarding surgeries and other issues. The camp helps people prepare for the surgeries by staff answering their questions and explaining the procedure. There is no charge for the camp and light lunch is provided, according to the hospital.

The camps are held at noon every Monday and Wednesday. Topics addressed include orthopedic nursing (both pre and post operation), respiratory therapy, nutrition, physical therapy, home recovery and case management, the website states.

There are three urgent care clinics with locations in Tyler, Athens and Palestine. Services offered include sports and school physicals, breaks, fractures, strains and sprains, back and neck pain, sports injuries, muscular pain, pinched nerve pain, other musculoskeletal injuries, cold and flu, cough and congestion and minor skin conditions, according to the website.

The Palestine location is at 2211 S. Loop 256, the Athens location is at 708 E. Corsicana Street and Tyler location is at 8101 S. Broadway.
