Tyler Lee added three more to its total of college football signings for the Class of 2020 on Wednesday.
Receiver Jeremiah Turner will play for Ouachita Baptist, defensive lineman Seth Leon to Wayland Baptist and running back Jamichael Turman to McPherson College.
In December, Jamal Ligon signed with Texas-San Antonio, Elliott Davison with Incarnate Word and Mark Patton with Tyler Junior College.
“In 13 years as a coach at five different schools, this group of seniors may be the best I’ve ever been around,” Tyler Lee assistant coach Jason Pitts said. “All of them are great kids.”
Turner said he chose Ouachita Baptist because “it felt like home.”
“It’s excited,” Turner said. “They said like seven percent of high school players go play college ball. I’m glad to be in that seven percent.”
“No offense to any other kid, but Jeremiah may be the best human being I’ve ever been around as a kid,” Pitts said. “He’s just an amazing person. I can’t say enough good things about Jeremiah.”
Turner said he wants to study business and marketing.
Leon got an offer from Wayland Baptist late in the recruiting process and decided that is where he wanted to continue his career.
“The thing I’m excited about with Wayland is they want me to come in and play right away,” Leon said. “I get to get right in on the action. It’s been a lot of hard work and perseverance, but it’s all been worth it.”
“He was a second-team all-district defensive end in one of the toughest districts in the state,” Pitts said. “He also grows a mean beard.”
Leon said he wants to major in business marketing.
Turman is headed to McPherson College in McPherson, Kansas. He was an all-district linebacker for the Red Raiders but will play running back at the next level.
“The coaches and the environment were great,” Turman said. “I’ve always wanted to continue at the next level of football. I have had a strong passion for playing football ever since I was a little kid.”
Turman is also a standout powerlifter at Lee.
“I expect him to win a state championship this year,” Pitts said. “He can squat over 500 pounds.”
Turman said he wants to major in mathematics.
Also signing on Wednesday was Lee tennis player Lilly Deatherage with Midwestern State.
“Wichita Falls is a smaller town, kind of like Tyler, and I will have a few friends up there, so I’m excited about that,” Deatherage said. “This is a dream come true. I’ve been playing tennis since I was 3 years old.”
Deatherage is 52-0 in district in team tennis — 26-0 each in singles and doubles — in her career, and she’s never lost a district match in the spring, either, Lee head coach Charlie Sizemore said.
Sizemore said Midwestern State is getting “the biggest forehand I’ve ever seen, boy or girl.”
Deatherage said she wants to major in pre-law or business.
