UT Tyler Basketball: Angelo State sweeps Patriots

Angelo State made the journey east and swept UT Tyler on Thursday in a Lone Star Conference basketball doubleheader at the Herrington Patriot Center.

The Patriot women gave the Rambelles a fight before falling, 69-66, in a nailbitter.

The Patriot men tried to rally, but felt short against the Rams, 88-82.

UT Tyler is home on Saturday, hosting Lubbock Christian with the women beginning at 2 p.m., followed by the men at 4 p.m. Angelo State will be at Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday for the same starting times as the UT Tyler-LCU games.

WOMEN



After the Patriots (3-15, 1-3) took a 20-13 first quarter lead, the game was tight throughout. UT Tyler led 48-47 entering the final period.

Beezy Birchette sparked UT Tyler with a double double — 11 points and 11 rebounds. Miranda Villegas (16 points), Kelsey Crouse (10) and Tyreesha Blaylock (10) were all in double figures for the Patriots. Crouse had six assists.

De’Anira Moore led the Rambelles (12-5, 9-4) with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Sawyer Lloyd (16 points) and Asia Davis (11 points) were in double figures as well. Catara Samuel had 12 rebounds. 

MEN

Four Patriots (6-13, 3-11) were in double figures, led by Jared Jenkins’ 18 points. He was followed by Micah Fuller (17), Ty Glover (14) and Darius Alford (13).

Bryson Power had 10 rebounds along with nine points, while Fuller had eight assists.

Collin Turner paced Angelo State (13-4, 9-4) with 22 points, with Jeremy Hayes and Camron Reedus both scoring 21 points. Andres Ibarguen had 11 points and 11 rebounds.
