J.J. Green holds on tightly to the rooster on the carousel Friday night in downtown Marshall. Wonderland of Lights ends Sunday.

MARSHALL — This weekend is the last opportunity to enjoy the carousel, outdoor ice skating, train and carriage rides at the Wonderland of Lights in Marshall.

Long lines Friday night couldn’t stop the festive spirit as residents and visitors prepared for the upcoming New Year’s holiday.

The downtown attractions drew in the Green family — visiting Gilmer from Houston for the Christmas break — for a bit of holiday fun. The night included the first carousel ride for their 6-month-old daughter, Emily.

As her mom, Melissa, held on to her tightly, the infant watched the world spin by in shades of brightly colored lights.

Anyone wanting to have some last-minute holiday fun has one more day to do so this year, because Wonderland concludes Sunday.

Remaining hours for downtown events are 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

For those interested in ice skating, sessions last 45 minutes and begin every hour on the hour. Admission is $10 and includes skate rental.

Carousel tickets cost $3 per ride, train rides cost $5 each, the horse-drawn wagonette costs $5, horse-drawn surrey costs $10, and the horse-drawn carriage limo costs $12.50.

Tickets can be bought at the downtown ticket booth or online at marshalltexas.net under the “Wonderland of Lights” tab.
