Smith County Grand Jury indicts five men on sexual assault of a child, child pornography charges

A Smith County grand jury handed up five separate indictments in unrelated cases of Tyler men accused of charges ranging from possession with intent to promote child pornography to continuous sexual abuse of a child.

The men, all of Tyler, were indicted Aug. 8.



Andrew Armstrong, 27, has been indicted on a charge of possession with intent to promote child pornography and is currently being held in the Smith County Jail on a $200,000 bond.

The offense date is listed as March 12, with Armstrong being booked into the jail May 25.

Jonathan Evans, 30, was indicted on a charge of continuous sexual abuse of a child, with an offense date of September 2015.

Evans was arrested May 13 and is being held in the Smith County Jail. His bond was increased from $500,000 to $750,000 after the indictment was handed up.

Michael McCollister, 23, was indicted on a charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child.

McCollister was arrested May 13 and is being held in the Smith County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

Felix Santos, 22, was indicted on a charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child. He was arrested May 2 and is being held in the Smith County Jail on a $1 million bond and an immigration detainer.

Sherman West, 44, was indicted on a charge of continuous sexual abuse of a child — victim under 14.

West was arrested May 30, after the Tyler Police Department asked the public for help locating a man wanted for sexually assaulting a child.

He is being held in the Smith County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
