The best entertainers in East Texas are up for ETX Music Awards.

Fans can vote for their favorites in many musical genres: blues, bluegrass, country, hip-hop/rap, inspirational, jazz, Latin, metal, punk and rock.

The deadline to cast a vote online is Saturday. Voting takes place at etxmusic.com.

The biggest award is Entertainer of the Year. The nominees for the award are Meredith Crawford, Matthew Jackson, Darrin Morris, Lee Mathis and Donnie Dodson.

The nominations for Album of the Year are “Bad Influence” by Cody Wayne, “Transit” by Meredith Crawford, “Vices” by Lee Mathis, “Preacher Man” by Darrin Morris and “Gorgeous Jetson” by Gorgeous Jetson.

The nominations for Video of the Year are “Make a Difference” by Exalt, “Same Sad Song” by Post Profit, “The Color Blue” by Bibeau, “Green Eyed Texas Angel” by Darrin Morris and “Down in Mexico” by Suzanne’s Band.

The 33 voting categories also include best musician (by instrument), best album, best male vocalist, best female vocalist, best single, best radio station, best songwriter and best place to go to enjoy live music. There is even a category for best marching band.

Organizers will present a Lifetime Achievement Award to a person or institution that has influenced music in East Texas.

Last year, the award was presented to John DeFoore, a guitar teacher in Mineola who has worked with Miranda Lambert and Kacey Musgraves, among others; and Ken Chinn, the head of a nonprofit group in Longview that donates instruments to music therapy programs.

Winners will be announced during an awards show Sept. 15 at The Texan, a venue in Athens.

What is being promoted as a red-carpet preshow will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the awards will be presented beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets cost from $25 to $65 and can be bought on the contest’s website.

Gordon Mayhall, one of the organizers, said that things are in the works to make the ceremony much different than in years past.

“We’ve got a lot of really cool stuff in the works this year,” he said.

The awards began in 2010 and the ceremony started a year later.

Stage is set in Edom

Edom Civic Theatre will stage the comedy “Faith County” as the second production of its season.

Curtain time is at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
