Tyler Lee 3, White Oak 0
Robert E. Lee opened its volleyball season with a 3-0 victory over the White Oak Lady ‘Necks on Tuesday at the REL Varsity Gymnaisum.
The Lady Raiders won 25-15, 25-18, 25-12.
Hope Casel, a transfer from Whitehouse, paced the Lady Raiders with four aces, seven kills, a block and four digs.
Other leaders for Lee were Anasha Martin (1 assist, 7 digs), Anna Stone (1 ace, 2 assists, 5 digs), Jamia Hutton (2 digs), Jemyiia Johnson (3 kills, 2 blocks), Ionna Jones (3 kills, 2 blocks, 3 digs), Adele McCown (4 digs), Symera Richardson (2 digs), Claire Trosclair (3 kills, 1 block, 1 assist, 4 digs), Semira Udosen (2 kills, 6 digs), Catherine Wise (2 digs) and Karrington Wise (1 kill, 1 dig).
John Tyler 3, Bishop Gorman 0
In Loop 323 volleyball matchup, John Tyler scored a 26-24, 25-7, 25-13 win over Bishop Gorman on Tuesday at Haddad Gymnasium on the Gorman campus.
Standouts for JT were Kassidy McKenzie (7 kills), Eriana Valle (29 receptions, 21 serves, 5 digs) and Michiah McFarland (15 serves, 13 assists, 6 digs).
“We got a lot of work to do,” JT coach Lamessa Derrett said. “… had good moments and bad moments.”
In the JV match, JT won 2-1 (25-9, 21-25, 25-17).
The Lady Lions will compete in the Van Varsity Tournament this weekend. On Friday, JT meets Quinlan Ford (3 p.m.), North Lamar (4 p.m.) and Sabine (7 p.m.). Bracket play is scheduled for Saturday.
Grace Community 3, Gary 1
GARY — The Grace Community Lady Cougars began their season with a 3-1 win over Gary on Tuesday in a volleyball match.
Grace won 25-22, 25-11, 23-25, 25-17.
Avery Nutt led all hitters with 10 kills, while Rebekah Sutton added six, Madi Rutherford five and Gabrielle Manziel four. Sutton and Riley Rayzor had two aces apiece.
Grace will travel to Galveston for the O’Connell Island Invitational this weekend.
Rains 3, Scurry-Rosser 2
EMORY — In a five-game volleyball contest, the Rains Lady Cats scored a 3-2 win over Scurry-Rosser on Tuesday.
Rains won 25-22, 25-19, 21-25, 14-25, 16-14.
Leaders for Rains were Harley Kreck (22 kills, 12 digs, 2 blocks), Katy Traylor (10 kills), Leo Terry (7 kills, 9 digs, 11 assists), Presley McAree (9 digs), Emily Green (5 blocks), Catrin Hoffman (2 blocks) and Kaitlyn Brock (16 assists).
Whitehouse 3, Gilmer 0
GILMER — The Whitehouse LadyCats opened their volleyball season with a 3-0 win over the Gilmer Lady Buckeyes on Tuesday.
Whitehouse won 25-22, 25-18, 25-19.
Whitehouse leaders included Briana Brown (11 kills), Ashlee Taylor (6 kills), Aja Williams (5 kills, 3 blocks) and Ryann Foster (21 assists).
Whitehouse will be playing this weekend in the Duncanville Tournment. On Aug. 13, Whitehouse will be hosting Lindale and Corsicana at C.L. Nix Wildcat Arena. Games are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
In freshman action, WHS 9A won 25-8, 25-13, while GHS B won 25-22, 30-28.
In JV play, Whitehouse defeated Gilmer 26-24, 12-25, 25-14.
Brook Hill 3, Brownsboro 1
BULLARD — The Brook Hill Lady Guard began their season with a 3-1 victory over Brownsboro.
The Lady Guard won 25-8, 23-25, 25-23, 25-19.
Kilgore 3, Nacogdoches 0
KILGORE — Ashton Vallery led the Lady Bulldogs with 16 assists, Jada Abercrombie and Lauren Couch knocked down six kills apiece and Kilgore opened the season with a 25-17, 25-18, 25-10 sweep of Nacogdoches.
Abercrombie added a team-leading 11 digs. Alexis T. Anderson had two kills, Skye Cotton two kill and three aces, Couch two digs and six aces, Skyler Day three digs and three aces, Dayton McElyea four kills and eight assists, Riley Rios four digs, Miah Thomas two blocks and three kills and Vallery three digs.
Quitman 3, Tatum 0
QUITMAN — The Quitman Lady Bulldogs opened the season with a 25-20, 25-17, 25-16 win over the Tatum Lady Eagles.
Leading the way for the Lady Bulldogs were senior Jentri Jackson (12 digs, 4 kills, 3 aces), sophomore Ava Burroughs (4 digs, 4 kills, 3 aces, 2 blocks), senior Shelby Hayes (12 assists, 3 digs, 2 kills, 2 aces), senior Maddy Whitehurst (2 digs, 1 kill, 2 aces, 1 assist, 1 block), junior Lucy Brannon (8 digs, 1 kill, 2 aces, 1 block) and senior Julia Simpkins (5 digs, 3 kills).
For Tatum in the loss, Essence Allen recorded 12 kills and four digs, Kaleigh Stroud three blocks, 12 digs and two aces, Kayla Jones five kills and five blocks, Kerrigan Biggs four blocks, Kristin Smith three kills and three blocks, Summer Dancy-Vasquez 10 digs, McKensi Greenwood eight digs, Abby sorenson 19 assists and four digs and Amaya Davis a kill and a block.
Tatum will compete in the Central Heights Tournament this weekend. Quitman will next play in the Princeton Tournament.
Harmony 3, Chapel Hill 0
HARMONY — Kinzee Settles led the way at the net with 12 kills and six blocks, Aleah Daily and Delaynie Nash combined for 25 assists and Harmony opened the season with a 25-18, 25-11, 25-18 sweep of Chapel Hill.
Daily had 15 assists, Nash 10 assists, Madi Rhame 10 digs, Jenci Seahorn six kills and two blocks and Spencer Watkins seven kills for Harmony.
Hawkins 3, Yantis 0
YANTIS — Logan Jaco paced the Lady Hawks with 13 kills, Alyssa Eddington and Lynli Dacus dished out nine assists apiece, and Hawkins swept past Yantis, 25-12, 25-11, 25-8, to open the season.
Tenley Conde and Jordyn Warren finished with three kills apiece for Hawkins, which will compete in the Leverett’s Chapel Tournament this weekend.
The Hawkins JV won 2-0 (25-15, 25-23).
Hawkins will now play in the Leverett’s Chapel Tournament. The first game of pool play is scheduled for 8 a.m. Thursday.
Leverett’s Chapel 3, Longview Trinity School of Texas 2
LEVERETT’S CHAPEL — Jillian Shaw pounded down 10 kills and came up with 10 digs, Katie Hughes chipped in with 20 digs and Lexus Haley dished out 20 assists for Leverett’s Chapel as the Lady Lions rallied for a 25-19, 16-25, 15-25, 25-21, 15-10 win over Trinity School of Texas.
Shaw added an ace, Haley an ace and a kill and Hughes a kill and three aces for Leverett’s Chapel, which will host a tournament this weekend beginning with pool play on Thursday.
Timpson 3, Tyler
Cumberland 0
TIMPSON — Nataley Smith handed out 21 assists, Kamryn courtney led with 11 kills and eight aces and Timpson opened the season with a 25-3, 25-15, 25-13 win over Tyler Cumberland Academy.
Harlie Ware added eight kills, and Da’Mya Collins finished with seven kills for Timpson, which will compete in the Central Heights Tournament this weekend.
Longview HEAT 3, Henderson Full Armor 0
LONGVIEW — Jaden Parker handed out 22 assists for Longview HEAT in a 25-14, 25-9, 25-15 sweep of Full Armor.
Parker also had seven assists and three digs, while Jaelyn Cleveland led the way at the net with 15 kills. Cleveland finished with four aces, Hope Poulter four digs, Jenna Parker three aces, 12 receptions and three digs, Jordan Parker five aces, five receptions, three blocks, eight digs and 11 kills, Makayla Richey three receptions and five digs and McKenzie Files one kill.
HEAT will participate in the Leverett’s Chapel Tournament this weekend.
