Letters to the Editor

My favorite editorialists are Cal Thomas and Walter Williams. They are the two who could solve most of our problems.

Thomas’ editorial on how Hungary deals with the influx of migrants should be adopted by the U.S. in a previous letter of mine i stated that the churches should have been involved with the border crisis.

The Lord doesn’t give us a pass just because we have a large building. Mission work is what He wants.

One organization I am a contributor is “International Fellowship of Christians and Jews. It helps Jews who have fled their country and migrated to Israel. Many immigrants are elderly Holocaust survivors. They have no pensions or family to help them.

Israel has to spend much of their income on defense from countries who wish to overthrow them.

I think Pres. Trump needs to have Cal Thomas as his counselor on this subject.

Political Correctness Run Amok

It is very difficult to hear Kate Smith sing God Bless America without a stirring of patriotism and pride in our country. For many years New York Yankees fans have been invited to hear her stirring words during the 7th inning stretch at home games. Same for fans of the Philadelphia Flyers hockey team, who have a statue of her near their entrance.

That is until recent. Gone now is the statue and now longer can you hear her at Yankee Stadium. Even though she has been gone for over three decades, she has been determined in this enlightened year to be a racial bigot, for having sang songs viewed today as racially insensitive, if now then.

We have also heard a new Nike shoe featuring Betsy Ross flag has been cancelled following a Colin Kaepernick protest claiming the flag represents an era of racial slavery. We are already familiar with Kaepernick’s failure to stand for our national anthem.

In California a school board has opted to spend over half a million dollars to paint over an 809 plus year old mural of George and his times, owing to it depiction of slaves picking cotton.

We know too that George Washington kept slaves at Mt. Vernon . some may want to burn it to the ground, likewise Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello. And don’t forget to change the name of numerous cities and schools including Tyler Texas, Cleburne Texas and others whose namesakes held slaves. The list must be long.

As I see it there is risk in judging the past in terms of the present; there is danger in trying to rewrite history; and there is even greater danger in repeating history. We should learn from history and love this great nation of ours, finding the things we hold in common most dear, loving others as ourselves, and thanking God for being Americans.
