SMU’s Jackson Markham wins 91st West Texas Amateur

MIDLAND — Jackson Markham of Dallas won the 91st West Texas Amateur that concluded on Sunday at Midland Country Club.

Markham, a rising senior at SMU, fired a final round of 70 for a 54-hole total of 3-under 213 to win by a stroke over Travis Woolf of Fort Worth (69-73-72). Markham had previous rounds of 73 and 70.

Three golfers tied for third at 2-over 218 — Midland’s Rick Houston (72-77-69), Odessa’s William Adams (73-72-73) and Midland’s Neil Dufford (76-72-70).

Tyler’s Bill Sharpe tied for 16th with a 6-over 222. Sharpe had rounds of 73-72-77.

Chuck Palmer of Dallas won the Senior Division in a playoff with Ed Brooks of Fort Worth as the two tied at 4-under 212. Palmer, who won on the first playoff hole, had rounds of 70-71-71 with Brooks carding rounds of 73-69-70.



Doug Hopton-Jones of Mansfield won the Super Senior Division with a 3-over 219 (73-74-72). Tom McGraw of Montgomery was runner-up at 5-over 221 (75-74-72).
