Whitehouse and UT Tyler’s Tanner Roach was named a Texas Collegiate League Baseball All-Star. He is playing this summer for the Victoria Generals.

Tanner Roach, the former Whitehouse High School standout who just completed his second season on the Patriot baseball team, was named a Texas Collegiate League Baseball All-Star.

Roach represented the Victoria Generals.

Roach, who hit .326 with 19 RBIs in the 2019 season, was selected as a starter, joining 10 of his teammates on the All-Star Roster. The Whitehouse native is hitting .301 in Victoria with four doubles, a home run and six RBIs.

Through Friday’s games, Roach leads the league with 22 hits and 21 runs scored. He also has 13 stolen bases in 14 attempts.

“Couldn’t be happier for Roach,” UT Tyler head coach Brent Porche said. “He is an extremely talented young man, but more importantly he is great kid and an extremely hard worker. Tanner exemplifies what it means to be a UT Tyler baseball player. Excited to watch him continue to grow and improve both on and off the baseball field.”

NEW CC, TRACK COACH

David Kaiser will be the new cross country and track and field coach, UT Tyler Athletic Director Dr. Howard Patterson announced.

“During a nationwide search for the next head coach for UT Tyler’s Track & Field and Cross Country programs we looked for an experienced coach who could continue to build upon the past successes of these programs and transition them into the NCAA Division II level while also succeeding in the Lone Star Conference,” Patterson said. “We could not be happier to welcome David to the Patriot family and looked forward to the continued growth and success of UT Tyler’s Track & Field and Cross Country program at the NCAA Division II level.”

Kaiser comes to UT Tyler after serving as assistant men’s cross country and track and field coach at the Univeristy of Michigan.

At Michigan, Kaiser was responsible for the administration, resource management, fundraising, recruitment, camp operations, and budget management for the program. Kaiser’s student-athletes earned 29 Academic All-Big Ten selections and 35 Michigan Athletic Academic Achievement Awards. In addition, Kaiser served a crucial role as Michigan won the 2008 Big Ten Outdoor Championship, 20019 Big Ten Indoor runner-up finish, two All-Americans, a pair of NCAA qualifiers, seven Big Ten Conference Championships, and 37 All-Big Ten Selections.

Kaiser brings a wealth of coaching experience at the NCAA Division I level while also adding athletics administration experience. During his career Kaiser has developed NCAA championship qualifiers across many track and field disciplines. Eight teams recorded Top 10 NCAA Regional and National Championship finishes while eight more recorded success with Top 20 finishes.

“I am extremely humbled at the opportunity that Dr. Patterson and the search committee has afforded me, to be named the head men’s and women’s cross country/track and field coach, is fantastic,” Kaiser said. “To be in the position to lead the Patriot programs into the NCAA Division II era is an opportunity that I do not take lightly.

“I am extremely thankful that coach Bob Hepler and coach Chris Stonestreet have laid the foundation for us to build a national NCAA Division II cross country and track and field program on and we will work hard to do that. People who know me know I’m a tireless worker, and I am driven to succeed. I am going to bring that same focus, passion and drive to the Patriot programs.”

Kaiser, a Kansas graduate, has also coached at East Carolina, DePaul, Purdue, Clemson, Wake Forest and Kansas.
