East Texans compete in Lanny Wadkins Junior Championship

DALLAS — Cade Bruce, of Longview, tied for 22nd after Tuesday’s final round of the Lanny Wadkins Junior Championship held at Brookhaven Country Club’s Masters Course.

Michael Heidelbaugh of Dallas won the Boys 15-18 Division with a 3-under 141 (70-71). There was a three-way tie for second at 1-under 143 — Hanseung Chang of Cedar Park (72-71), Matthew Comegys of Plano (69-74) and Jay Pabin of Lucas (70-74).



Bruce carded a 9-over 153 (76-77) to tie with Matthew Watkins of Heath (74-79).

Canton’s Kevin Nixon tied for 48th with a 15-over 159 (78-81) and Texarkana’s Jack Wilson tied for 58th at 20-over 164 (77-87).

There were 70 golfers in the division.

Grant Yerger of Driftwood won the Boys 14 & under Division with a 3-over 147 (75-72). He won by a stroke over Andrew Petruzzelli of Dallas (75-73—148) and five over third-place Nathan Marion of San Antonio (76-76—152).

There were 14 entries.

In the Girls 12-18 Division, Remington Isaac of Montgomery captured first place with a 4-over 148 (73-75).

There was a three-way tie for second at 6-over 150 between Gabbi Bentancourt of Frisco (72-78), Nicole Vivier (73-77) and Sydney Givens (74-76), both of Austin.

Texarkana’s Graci Henard placed 19th at 21-over 165 (85-80).

There were 33 entries.

The next event on the Legends Junior Tour schedule will be the 93rd Texas Junior Amateur July 22-24. The Texas Junior Amateur, one of the oldest and largest state championships with 240 kids playing in four divisions, will be conducted at The Clubs at Kingwood. The Forest and Island courses will play host to one of the four major championships on the LJT schedule.
