Rains’ Oakes, Delozier earn top honors on all-state team

The Emory Rains High School softball team dominated the Class 3A season. So it was only natural the LadyCats would color the all-state team blue and white.
Pitcher Chanlee Oakes and Coach Scott Delozier earned superlative awards on the Collin Street Bakery/Texas Sports Writers Association All-State Softball team that was released on Saturday. Voting is by writers and broadcasters around the state.
Oakes, a sophomore, had a record of 32-1 in the circle with a 1.16 ERA to earn 3A Player of the Year honors. She added 162 strikouts with just 26 walks. She was also a standout at the plate with an average of .464 with 11 doubles, three triples and a home run with 48 RBIs. She scored 31 runs and did not commit an error.
Delozier led Rains to a 34-1 record and a 6-2 win over Hallettsville in the 3A title game in Austin to garner Coach of the Year. He helped the LadyCats to the Class 4A state tournament in 2018.
Joining Oakes on the first team were three teammates — catcher Catrin Hoffman, second baseman Elissa Elliott and outfielder Presley McAree.
Other East Texans on the first team were utility/designated player Makana Morton of West Rusk and outfielder Pearl Perry of Hughes Springs.
Grand Saline pitcher Delana Meyer, White Oak pitcher Lillian Scalia and Diboll shortstop Ashtyn Alvarez earned second-team honors with New Boston pitcher Morgan McAlexander (UT Tyler signee), Rains third baseman Jasmine Mott and Mount Vernon outfielder Heather Brown garnering third-team honors.

Class 6A
Katy, the Class 6A champion, swept the top awards with pitcher Alyssa LeBlanc and first baseman Chloe Cobb sharing Player of the Year honors. Katy’s Kalum Haac was Coach of the Year.
Longview pitcher Kennedy Cameron was voted to the second team.
Honorable mention candidates were a trio of Longview Lady Lobos — catcher Kerris Cameron, shortstop Jordan McClain and utility/DP Zekyia Robinson.
Class 5A
Angelton won the 5A state title and nabbed Player of the Year (pitcher Aaliyah Garcia) and Coach of the Year (Cindy Rubio) honors.
Hallsville pitcher Jaydin Ainsworth was on the second team with Mount Pleasant pitcher Averie Ayers and shortstop Jordna Dickerson making third team.

Class 4A
Huffman Hargrave won both of its state tournament games by a combined score of 16-0 to capture the championship.
The Falcons pitcher, Katy Janes, was named Player of the Year with HH’s Garrett Gates earning coaching honors.
Karstlyn Iltis, first baseman for Paris North Lamar, was the only East Texan on the first team.
On the second team were Gilmer pitcher Madeline Barber, Bullard outfielder Aspyn Grossman and Kilgore outfielder Mackenzie Cavanaugh.
Third-teamers were Kilgore pitcher Kristen Wilson, Carthage pitcher Taylor Willis and Longview Spring Hill utility/DP Samantha Schott.

Crawford captured the Class 2A title with an 8-7 win in eight innings over Thorndale.
The Lady Pirates earned top honors — pitcher Makey Dunbar was named Player of the Year with Kirk Allen tabbed Coach of the Year.
Beckville first baseman Shelley Pierce earned first-team honors with teammate and pitcher Ally LaGrone garnering a second-team slot. Beckville’s Kinley Pepper, an outfielder, made the third team.

D’Hanis won the 1A crown with a 9-7 win over Chireno.
