CLAUDELLA TOMLINSON

A memorial service for Claudella Tomlinson, 98, of Tyler will be held on Friday, May 17, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Marvin United Methodist Church Chapel with Rev. Gerry Giles officiating. A private burial will precede the service at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.

Mrs. Tomlinson passed away Saturday, May 11, 2019 in Tyler. She was born March 1, 1921 in Avery, Texas to Washington Irving Grant and Nora (Coffman) Grant.

Claudella was a member of Marvin United Methodist Church and the Chapel Sunday School Class since 1956. She graduated from East Texas State Teachers’ College (now Texas A&M University at Commerce). She retired after 50 years of service at Reynolds and Kay as an executive secretary. She was a member and past president of the Tyler Pilot Club and a long-time volunteer at the Tyler Day Nursery. She was instrumental in organizing and implementing “Life Line” at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Hospital. She was married for 64 years to Tommy Tomlinson, later to be affectionately known as Mr. “T” to thousands of TISD students.

Claudella was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Tommy in 2006. She is survived by her loving family including her daughter, Peggy Tomlinson McCaslin of Richardson, TX; her grandson, Matt Wayne McCaslin of Austin; two great-grandchildren, Claire McCaslin and Trevor McCaslin of Austin; two sisters, Irvelyn Hardman of Avery, and Ernestine Cregg of Burleson, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be Edwin Bell, Tilmon Deaton, Dr. Drew Fielder, Randy Grant, Tim Grant, Bill Hardman, J.C. Hardman, Cecil Hulsey, Patrick James, Gary McCaslin, Ed Stephenson, and Jeff Taylor.



Visitation is scheduled from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler.
