GO & DO: Rodeos in Lindale, Jacksonville bring cowboys to East Texas

Rodeo fans have a choice between events in Jacksonville and Lindale this weekend.

Lindale Championship Rodeo: Lindale Championship Rodeo continues through Saturday at Cross Brand Cowboy Church, 11915 FM 2015.

The gates open at 6 p.m. followed at mutton bustin’ for kid at  6:15 p.m. and live music 6:45 p.m.

The rodeo is sponsored by Lindale Chamber of Commerce. For more information and tickets go to lindalechamber.org, or call 903-882-7181.

Tops in Texas: Action at the Tops in Texas Rodeo will begin at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Rodeo Arena, 736 Mulberry St., Jacksonville. 



Besides the competition, the rodeo will feature the antics of rodeo clown Justin Rumford. 

Tickets purchased in advanced at Norman Activity Center cost $10. Tickets purchased at the gate will cost $12. The number to the ticket office is 903-586-2218.

The rodeo is part of Jacksonville’s Western Week Activities.

Tyler Civic Theatre continues ‘Groucho’ through Sunday

The final performances of Tyler Civic Theatre’s “Groucho: A Life in Revue” are set for 7:30 p.m Friday and Saturday and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the theater, 400 Rose Park Drive.

Tickets are available at the box office and online at tylercivictheatre.com.

The play tells the story of Groucho Marx, a comedian known for a bigger-than-life personality.

The play is directed by Roger Pharr and Nicholas Moy plays Groucho Marx.

Master Gardeners Tour on Saturday includes 5 stops

Five Tyler-area homes known for fantastic gardens will be featured during the  Smith County Master Gardeners Garden Tour from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The tour features gardens at:

  • 1301 Roseland Boulevard
  • 2518 Old Bullard Road
  • 3679 Bentridge Court
  • 16873 Rainbow Ridge Circle, Lake Tyler
  • 14279 County Road 294, Arp
  • Each tour stop provides examples of how to use plants and decorative elements in landscaping.

Advance tickets to the tour cost $10 and being sold at Brookshire’s, 100 Rice Road; Potpourri House, 3320 Troup Highway; Blue Moon Gardens, 13062 FM 279 Chandler; Anderson’s Gardens & Gifts, 19045 CR 139, Flint, and the Smith County Extension Office, 1517 W. Front St., Suite 116.

On the day of the tour, tickets will cost $15 and be available at tour sites.

Tyler Celtic Festival 

The Tyler Celtic Festival will take place on Saturday and Sunday at 15926 Highway 64 East, near Chapel Hill High School. Gates open at 9:30 a.m. on both days. 

The festival will include competitions, activities demonstrations, entertainment and vendors that celebrate Celtic culture.
