Duke Carlisle

ATHENS — Athens native Duke Carlisle started as a quarterback and defensive back for The University of Texas Longhorns’ first national championship team in 1963 and was in an enviable position to experience virtually everything that went into building a football dynasty.

Carlisle has just released his first book Longhorns & Tall Tales, a memoir of his days on The 40 Acres where he weaves one humorous tale after another about what life was like on and off the field.

The Texas Exes Henderson County Chapter is hosting Carlisle for a reception and book signing from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the Athens Boathouse Bar & Grill (5401 Marina Drive, Athens, 75752, 903-675-2628). There are complimentary appetizers with a cash bar.

Books can be purchased for $20 and will be autographed by Carlisle. A portion of the proceeds from book sales will be donated to the Chapter’s scholarship fund.
