Tyler ISD board candidates raise almost $25,000 in April

The four candidates for the Tyler ISD Board of Trustees District 3 and 6 seats raised almost $25,000 in April, according to the latest campaign finance filings.  

District 6 incumbent the Rev. Fritz Hager Jr. continues to lead the pack with just under $12,000 in donations from March 26 through April 24.



His opponent, Lisa McClure, raised $3,860 from April 3 through April 25. Hager drew more than six times the amount of individuals donations with 63 to McClure’s 10.

In the District 3 race, Freeman Sterling raised $2,206.03, while his opponent Marc Loredo raised $6,851.05. The two drew about 40 individual donations each during the reporting period.

District 3 has not seen a competitive race in more than a decade.

The two races also saw increased spending in the lead-up to election day, which is Saturday.

In the District 6 race, Hager spent $12,997.06, with his largest expense being an $11,646 payment to Dot the i for advertising.

McClure spent $2,796.15, with her largest expenses being $1,363.83 for advertising with the Tyler Morning Telegraph and a $1,255.14 payment to U Printing for postcards.

In District 3, Sterling spent $3,664.98, with his largest expense being $2,468.17 to Designer Graphics for advertising. Loredo spent $2,780.47 and had an additional $5,166.14 in expenses that had been billed, but not yet paid. His largest expenses were to Dot the i for a total of $7,104.09

Residents in Districts 3 and 6 can cast their ballots from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday at the following locations:

Jones Boshears Elementary, 3450 Chandler Highway.

T.J. Austin Elementary School, 1105 W. Franklin St.

St. Louis Baptist Church, 4000 Frankston Highway.

Dayspring United Methodist Church, 310 W. Cumberland Road.

Hubbard Middle School, 1300 Hubbard Drive.

The HUB, 304 E. Ferguson St.

Other school districts with contested elections in Smith County include Bullard, Winona and Chapel Hill.
