Construction to improve drainage on Old Bullard Road began Monday and will likely be completed by late September. Delays are to be expected throughout the duration of the construction.

Southbound traffic will remain open, but will be reduced to one lane that will have through access along Old Bullard Road.

Northbound traffic will be rerouted along Rice Road to Richmond Road and to Timberwilde Drive.

Four electronic message boards have been installed notifying drivers about the construction.

The project includes installation of three additional concrete box culverts under Old Bullard Road and new curb inlets.

The current drainage structures under Old Bullard Road were put in place in the 1970s prior to the city’s current drainage design standards and before most of the current residential and commercial development in the area existed. The structures are undersized to carry a 100-year storm and contribute to street flooding at this location.

The new box culverts will be built in two phases.

The northbound and center lanes will be closed while the culverts are built under those lanes and southbound traffic will remain open during the first phase.

The southbound and center lanes will be closed while the culverts are built and southbound traffic will be moved over to the northbound lanes during the second phase.

All businesses affected by the construction will remain open. Driveway access to those businesses will be maintained during during construction.
