Top seeds — John Tyler’s Mackenzie Wade (girls singles) and Nacogdoches’ Josh Roy (boys singles) — advanced to the finals of the District 16-5A tennis tournament after two victories Friday at the Whitehouse High School Tennis Courts.

All finals are scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday.

After receiving a bye in the first round, Wade downed Hallsville’s Ashlee Stevens (6-0, 6-0) in the quarterfinals and Whitehouse’s No. 3 seed Sarah Teves (6-3, 6-4) in the semifinals.

Wade will face No. 2 Kimberly Lopez of Lufkin in the championship match.

Lopez, who received a bye in the first round, won over Hallsville’s Chloe Carroll (6-1, 6-0) in the quarterfinals and Whitehouse’s No. 4 seed Sarah Green (6-1, 6-3) in the semifinals.

Whitehouse teammates Teves and Green will play for third place.

Roy is scheduled to play No. 2 seed Saul Martinez of Jacksonville in the finals, while JT’s Jesus Gamez, the No. 5 seed, will play Nacogdoches’ Evan Leonard, the No. 4 seed, in the third-place match.

The doubles finals include: Girls, No. 1 Madie Fortner-Kylee Mixon, Hallsville, vs. No. 2 Katlin Gonzalez-Alejandra Hernandez, Jacksonville; Boys, No. 1 Levi Watson-Scott Davis, Hallsville, vs. No. 2 Coby Wellborn-Jacob Sanders, Whitehouse; and Mixed, No. 1 Miles Brandt-Kamryn Hightower, Whitehouse, vs. No. 2 Colton Turner-Jillian Pagaduan, Whitehouse.

The doubles’ third-place matches include: Girls, No. 5 Diana Zavala-Keren Fuentes, John Tyler, vs. No. 4 Molly Maudlin-Macy Small, Hallsville; Boys, No. 5 Koby Moulton-Jacob Wood, Whitehouse, vs. No. 3 Thomas Brewer-Alex Hassell, Jacksonville; and Mixed, No. 4 Trace Brooks-Brinkley Bonds, Hallsville, vs. No. 3 Lizbet Saldana-Bryan Gluck, Jacksonville.

The top two in each bracket advance to the Class 5A Region II Tournament April 17-18 in Allen.
