District 16-4A Golf: Bullard boys, Spring Hill girls capture team titles

LONGVIEW Led by medalist Hayes Esposito, the Bullard Panthers captured the District 16-4A Boys Golf Tournament on Wednesday at Wood Hollow Golf Club.

The first round of the 36-hole event was held on Tuesday at Garden Valley Golf & Resort in Lindale.

Bullard won the tourney with a team score of 594. Gilmer was second at 703.

Esposito earned medalist honors with a two-round total of 140 (72-68). Bryce Burns of Gilmer was second at 148 (77-71). Tying for the bronze were Bullard teammates Harrison Hopson (79-73—152) and Jensen Smith (74-78—152).

In fact, all five members of the Bullard championship squad finished in the top 10. Colton Kelley finished fifth and Garrett Esposito was seventh. 



Earning individual trips to regionals were Logan Moore of Spring Hill and Jonathan Horaney of Bullard No. 2 by finishing in the top 10 and not on the top two teams.

In the girls tourney, individual medalist J’Dee Stovall led the Spring Hill Lady Panthers to the title with a score of 719. Bullard was second at 794.

Spring Hill’s Tyler Newman was second with Bullard’s Caroline Calhoon taking the bronze. Other Bullard linksters in the top 10 were Katie Capps, Ashlyn Stewart and Faith Baiza. Rounding out the silver medalist winning Bullard squad was Grace Baiza.

Henderson’s Alyssa Pinnell was also in the top 10 and earned a trip to regionals.

The Class 4A Region III Tournament is scheduled for Van Zandt Country Club in Canton. The boys tourney is April 22-23 and the girls event is April 24-25.
