Coaches named for 16th Azalea Orthopedics All-Star Basketball Classic

Four area coaches have been named for the 16th Azalea Orthopedics All-Star Basketball Classic, Chase Doughten, Director of Marketing & Public Affairs for Azalea Orthopedics, announced.
Coaches for this year’s All-Star game, which is scheduled for April 13 at Tyler Junior College’s Wagstaff Gymnasium, are Joshua Jourden of Timpson High School (Girls East); Kimberly Branch of Eustace High School (Girls West); David Schmitt of Shelbyville High School (Boys East) and J.J. Johnson of Palestine High School (Boys West).
The Classic gives high school seniors in the East Texas area the opportunity to showcase their talent for colleges and hometown fans. Area seniors are nominated by their high school coaches and are selected by an All-Star selection panel.
Jourden has 230 career wins in 13 years of coaching. He has taken his teams to the playoffs seven times with four district championship, three regional championships and a state title (2013, Whitharral, Class 1A Division II).
Branch has 75 career wins in four years as head coach, taking her teams to two playoffs.
Schmitt has been coaching for 29 years and led his teams to 585 wins, 20 playoff appearances, 10 district championships, two regional titles and a state championship this season with Shelbyville (Class 2A).
Johnson just completed his 14th season as head coach. He has registered 225 wins with nine playoff appearances, five district championships and a regional title.
The doors will open at 5 p.m. the day of the games with the girls contest set for 5:30 p.m. with the boys game to follow at approximately 7 p.m.
Ticket prices are $6 for adults, $3 for students and children 5 and under get in free.
All proceeds from the All-Star game are donated to the Bethesda Clinic.
