RICHARDSON — The UT Tyler Patriots split a baseball doubleheader with UT Dallas on Saturday at UTD Field.

The Comets won the first game 3-0, but the Patriots bounced back to win 5-1 in the second contest.

The Patriots (9-10) return home to face Wisconsin-Platteville on Tuesday and Wednesday at Irwin Field. Both games are slated to start at 7 p.m.

In the second game, Graham Welch belted two home runs and went 4 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs scored to pace the Patriot offense.

Blake Wilson and Zane Wilkinson each had two hits with Henry Sanchez hitting a triple. Tanner Roach and Blake Maddox added singles. Wilson and Wilkinson also drove in runs with Welch (2), Wilson (1), Brandon Rossiter (1) and Wilkinson (1) scoring runs.

Austin Schneider (3-2) and Matthew McMillan held the Comets to three hits. Schneider hurled seven innings, allowing three hits and a run while striking out 10. He walked two. McMillan pitched two innings and did not allow a hit while striking out three and walking one.

In the first game, the Comets’ Ryan Vera allowed only three hits in the seven-inning game. He struck out three.

Welch had two doubles with Rossiter hitting a single.

For the day, Welch was 6 for 8.
