Texas College honors education leaders at annual Legacy Scholarship fundraiser

Texas College honored regional education leaders during this year’s Legacy Scholarship Fundraiser. The annual event, held Friday, honored community partners and helps raise money for Texas College students.

The evening’s honorees were:

  • Dr. Kirk A. Calhoun, president, UT Health Science Center at Tyler and chairman of the board, UT Health East Texas;
  • Dr. Willie C. Champion, assistant to the president, Texas College;
  • Dr. Marty Crawford, superintendent of Tyler Independent School District;
  • Dr. Michael Metke, chancellor and chief executive officer of Tyler Junior College;
  • Dr. Lester C. Newman, president of Jarvis Christian College;
  • Dr. Michael V. Tidwell, president of The University of Texas at Tyler.


The private Christian college, founded in 1894, is among nine historically black colleges and universities in the state.
